This project transforms an unused 15’ x 50’ extension to a residential plot into a densely planted, private garden and reading pavilion. To provide privacy from the increasing noise of traffic, the existing ground plane was excavated to create a sunken path lined in black granite. Small niches line the path and are illuminated by diyas in the evening. The reading room pavilion, clad in thin strips of local reclaimed wood, acts as a portal framing two contrasting landscapes, a dense “wild” garden.
Thin wood slats create a light screen between reading room and private residence - allowing for filtered views but no physical connection.
