Creative Co-working Spaces: Harkat Studios, Mumbai
Is freelancing a better option than an office job? Well, for today’s time and age, freelancing is the new cool. It offers enormous freedom and flexibility – and those are the things that freelancers value the most! Of course, it means not having an ‘office space’, nor a regular working hours schedule. It may also mean rushing to a cybercafé to print out a presentation, on the way to a meeting – and that’s a hassle, for sure.
Harkat Studios has come to the rescue of all such freelancers – who need the freedom, flexibility, along with the WiFi, the printer, and endless cups of tea and coffee!
Many people in 9 to 5 jobs envy freelancers. They see them adapting easily to having a quick coffee with a friend who is in town for a few hours, or even squeezing out time for a midday movie, with a few quick phone calls to reschedule their day’s engagements.
Yes, working from home has too many benefits; but also remember the hundreds of doorbells, marketing cold calls, and house-help issues that you have to deal with! Have the groceries been delivered? Why has the maid turned up two hours late? Has the school bus arrived? Is lunch ready? Freelancers are often asked and expected to run errands all because “you are a freelancer and you don’t have fixed work timings”! The frequent disturbances and distractions often end up ruining the day’s schedule…
Harkat Studios is the answer to the problems a freelancer faces. A vibrant co-working space set up in Versova, Harkat provides you with your very own office space.
Co-owned by Michaela Strobel and Karan Talwar, Harkat Studios started off initially as a film studio, but there was an urgent need to create a common working space for their associates, which triggered an innovative idea. And thus shaped up a flexible workspace, with all the amenities of a modern office – plus the comfort of home!
With a gorgeous open space, and lots of greenery all around, the place offers more flexibility for people to choose the environment they would prefer to work in.
Harkat studios indeed is a super alternative to investing in your own workspace! That’s certainly a dream come true for many Mumbaikars trying to juggle their budgets on a daily basis. With this option of renting out an independent work-space as and when needed – freelancing never was easier; nor more fun!
Of course, a space like this had to be cool and trendy in terms of the interior ambience as well. A recent university of Texas study found that bland grey, beige and white offices lead to the feeling of depression. Similarly other scientific studies have shown that colors have a large impact on our moods and hence, it is important to a vibrant, invigorating workplace.
And that seems to be the diktat followed by Harkat studios. Bright colour highlights, cozy couches, large workbenches for group working, nice, tree-shaded spaces or cool airconditioned ones – they are all in place here… The interior scheme induces happiness and enthusiasm while working, which is what makes this place stand out from others.
The Harkat team is "a collective of professionals from different walks of life, all bound together by common tastes in whisky and art. It comprises of Designer and Film Maker Karan Talwar, Researcher, Film Maker and German Organiser Michaela Strobel, Illustrator and Street Artist Harsh Raman and Creative Producer Iti Agarwal." And as the owners reiterate: “This is NOT an office. It is a haven of creative productivity.”
So – all ye creative freelancing folks out there – grab your laptops and head out towards Harkat Studios!
