Museum / Art Gallery
Falling under the domain of public buildings, museums and art galleries need a skilful handling of interior space. Wall colour is usually kept white as it shows off the art-work to an optimum; with a surface treatment sometimes taken to break the monotony of the space. The lighting is usually white, with focus lights and dimmers used for enhancing the colours and textures of the art-work. While wall-hung art-work of any size is placed along the walls, sculptures may be kept strewn across the floor, to enable an all-round view of the pieces. Some sculptures may be large and free-standing; while smaller sculptures may be placed on pedestals to enable good viewing.
In cases where natural light is needed it must be brought into the space in a manner that cuts off glare and allows the space to be flooded evenly with a soft even glow.
