Housekeeping or household management is the act of overseeing the organizational, day-to-day operations of a house or estate, and the managing of other domestic concerns. Housekeeping creates goods and services within a household, such as meals, childcare, household cleanliness, maintenance and repairs. .
Extended to hospitality and corporate spheres, housekeeping services are an integral part of the operations. Common tasks include cleaning interiors and exteriors, maintaining lawns and outdoor/indoor plants and upkeep of accessories. This task is either done by an in-house team or outsourced to a contractor; who usually would then enter into an annual contractual agreement with the company.
This industry is extremely labour-intensive and has helped replace contract labour while providing employment to thousands of unskilled /semiskilled labour.
