To deal with the bleak conditions of the existing building we cut open the centre of the house – demolishing a slab and an RCC staircase and replacing it with a slot of “light”. A thin tall empty space–much like the void of a “light house” that reaches out to meet the sky and capture the light – fills the space with much needed natural light and an openness that serves to bring the different members in this joint family together.
A glass floor that works as a skylight brings in light to the heart of the house and distributes it even further through glass walls and glass block partitions.
