Despite being an island city with a history of being dependent on the sea for food, transport and commerce there is no major cultural facility focused on
Mumbai’s rich coast and coastal waters. Nor is there a museum dedicated to naval history past and present. There is a need to establish a modern,professionally run maritime museum to remind the City of its rich maritime culture and heritage and recreate an interest in the minds of its people towards its preservation.
