Kirlian Photography is a process from the 1930s (also known as electrography) that tries to capture the natural iridescence, much like an aura that envelops living plants, but is not visible to the naked eye. This technique of photography has garnered amazing results for Rahul Gajjar – as apparent in these stunning images.

Having moved far from the technology and artistic engagement that traditional photography practice offers, Rahul Gajjar has been trying to raise the bar, both in terms of the evolving sophistication of the technology and the expressive exploration of the art-form. He has extensively worked as a New Media Artist (Digital Art) having introduced the medium in India.

Another significant part of his career has been the  photographical documentation of the UNESCO World Heritage Site - Champaner-Pavagadh, near Baroda. Over the last three decades, Rahul has captured its many moods – at different times of the day and in different seasons of the year. The result of this diligent effort is an outstanding collection of more than 50,000 images of the site! Besides this, his portfolio includes 12 Indian and 6 international sites and he is now involved in documenting 32 existing UNESCO World Heritage Sites of India.

Now Mumbaikars can get a closer look at the interesting technique deployed by Rahul Gajjar - at the Piramal Gallery, NCPA - from the 16th to the 25th of January, 2015!! So, mark the dates and watch plant-life come alive, in a new light!
