Showing Images From Project: The Portal House

The house is built on a 50 ft x 80 ft plot in Bangalore with main access from the south. Client’s main requirement was to build a house with minimal maintenance and sufficient daylight and ventilation. Spatial arrangement for the house is such that all interactive spaces such as formal living, informal living with dining area as the pivotal space opens up the ground floor for cross ventilation. These interactive spaces are organized along the north east boundary of the site with fenestration worked out to avoid any direct view of the neighboring apartment complex along the same boundary edge. Kitchen & bedrooms are arranged along the north west with master bedroom on the south west having fenestration for sufficient daylight and breeze flowing into the spaces. Considering the sun path, fenestration were given along north south axis so as to avoid direct harsh sunlight in the evenings. The double volume dining area with family room above & large opening for skylight keeps the ambiance of the space dynamic with change in natural light throughout the day. A 6 ft cantilever roof protects the interior spaces from the southern sun at the ground floor and the first floor is a juxtaposition of stone mass of the master bed room with elevated family room above the dining area. Ground floor is elevated by 8’ above the road level so as to keep the guest bed room and informal living area detached from the street with a private deck serving both and with parking and home theater below
