The brief was to provide highway amenities along the Mumbai nasik highway. This project has three main parts – petrol pump, food court and a small hotel with a banquet. The important aspects of designing along a highway are visibility and time. One should be able to see it to acknowledge it and once inside one should be able to get out as quickly as possible. Time is of the essence here.
The existing contours were used very wisely as shown in the sections. The lowest level is where the petrol pump is so any trespasser can leave quickly. In the next level parking for food court is provided. The food court itself is spread over three levels accessible by a ramp forming a huge plaza in the centre with ample seating space.
