The brief was to provide highway amenities along the Mumbai nasik highway. This project has three main parts – petrol pump, food court and a small hotel with a banquet. The important aspects of designing along a highway are visibility and time. One should be able to see it to acknowledge it and once inside one should be able to get out as quickly as possible. Time is of the essence here.
The motel is designed around courtyards. The rooms of the hotel are on 4 contours with a level difference of 1.5m. There is one central spine that steps down connecting the rooms horizontally and a lobby connecting the rooms vertically. The central spine of the hotel is also designed with interspersed open to sky courtyards.
