Chaukor Studio is a Noida-based architecture and Interior design firm providing design solutions for Residences, Offices, Public and Institutional building layouts and interiors. Co-founded in 2012, by architects Nilesh and Tejeshwi Bansal, along with civil engineer Dinesh Bansal to manage the construction, Chaukor Studio works on the philosophy of regenerative design. The firm’s profile on TFOD – with each project thoroughly explained and each image/idea meticulously captioned – helps it clinch this week’s TFOD Profile Of The Week.

Describing their practice as “a small community of individuals who are extremely passionate about their work and the impact it has on the world around us” – Chaukor Studio has been involved in practicing and evolving the idea of Regenerative Architecture since its inception.

“The studio works with a firm philosophy that ‘anyone can design’. The designer just needs to have a keen observation of his immediate surroundings and patience to learn from others,” says Nilesh. “Coming from diverse backgrounds, all the team members (Architects, Interior designers and Civil engineers) have something distinct to contribute towards the unified goal of bringing a positive change in the society through our built environment.”

What though, does the practice of ‘regenerative architecture’ encompass? “Regeneration describes processes that restore, renew and revitalize their original source of energy and materials. An approach to create sustainable spaces that combines needs of user with integrity of nature. Verticals that define our practice combine traditional methodologies and modern technologies. The process is termed Regenerative Architecture,” comes the answer.

The Verticals of the practice are divided into two – intangible and tangible. While the intangible component includes fundamental geometric proportions, naturally occurring order of scales and gradations, textures, patterns and site-specific responses to social and cultural environments; the tangibles focus on user comfort with enhanced indoor environment quality, with building management systems controlling important issues such as lighting and security.

In the pursuit of creating sustainable systems that integrate needs of society with integrity of nature Chaukor Studio has found its niche; of picking and choosing materials and processes that restore, renew and revitalize their original source of energy. “Our aim is to generate holistic building habitats. By integrating traditional formal expressions and design subtleties with modern materials and technologies, we strive to create ecologically sound and elegant building environments.”

Whether in homes or workspaces, the effort by the design team of Chaukor Studio seems to be directed at creating spaces that nurture the emotional connect that inhabitants or users would feel, with their living/working environment; in a manner that encourages creativity and collaboration.

Chaukor Studio also actively participate in competitions for projects all over India, and have put up some very interesting images from their design proposals - on TFOD too. There are also conceptual images of design ideas that the studio has worked on. The projects they pitch for, range from science museums to war memorials, and concepts they have created cover a broad spectrum from plug-and-play modular school buildings to pedestrian skywalks adjacent to the metro network!

TFOD – The Future Of Design celebrates the spirit of regeneration and commends Chaukor Studio’s work ethos; wishing them more power and success in meeting future goals.
